Mozambique: Teachers claim they are being transferred for “demanding their rights”

A group of armed individuals stormed the official residence of the Chimoio district administrator (Manica province) on Tuesday morning and seized an estimated 100,000 meticais in cash and mobile phones.
The number of robbers is not yet known, but they are understood to have effected entry into the property by breaking a living room window.
According to the Chimoio administrator, Daniel Marques Andicene, who was in such a state of shock as to unable to record an interview, the gunmen manhandled him and his family, then stole the money and cell phones, and finally fired several shots while fleeing the scene.
The robbery occurred in a prestigious Chimoio neighbourhoods, with a police garrison, and only about ten metres from the command centre of the VIP Protection Unit.
We asked the police, via head of public relations Elsídia Filipe, how safety protocols had failed. She said the investigation underway would “supply answers to this question”.
Meanwhile, the police urged citizens not to keep large sums of money at home, at the risk of facilitating the realisation of plans for crimes against humanity.
