President Filipe Nyusi has encouraged Mozambican entrepreneurs to be more proactive in conquering international markets.
Speaking in Kigali during a meeting with business figures who are accompanying him on his three-day state visit to Rwanda, President Nyusi recommended that the contacts made during this visit should be used to generate business.
The President stressed, “we want to do concrete things with Rwanda” and promised that his government will continue to facilitate and support the establishment of business partnerships through improvements to the investment-friendly environment.
The President noted that the world is increasingly open and global. He highlighted the importance of involving and giving space to the private sector to ensure economic sustainability.
Taking into account Mozambique’s traditional role as a producer and exporter, the President appealed for businesses to use this potential to conquer markets such as landlocked Rwanda. He highlighted the potential for exporting sugar, cereals, and other products.
Mozambique is an exporter of sugar, producing about 470,000 tonnes but only consuming 200,000 tonnes. According to one of the delegation, Sergio Zandamela of the National Sugar Distributor (DNA), in the first phase of a project Mozambique has exported 10,000 tonnes to Rwanda.

President Nyusi arrived in Rwanda on Thursday and was greeted at the airport by President Paul Kagame. At the beginning of the visit, President Nyusi toured the Special Economic Zone. Later, he was the guest of honour at a state banquet.
On Friday, he held formal talks with President Kagame, which followed up on discussions the two leaders had in Maputo in 2016.
President Nyusi paid a sombre visit to the Kigali Genocide Memorial. He also toured the KLab (Knowledge Lab) which describes itself as “a unique open technology hub in Kigali where students, fresh graduates, entrepreneurs and innovators come to work on their ideas/projects to turn them into viable business models”.
The President then visited the town of Rubavu on the border with the Democratic Republic of Congo where he toured the one-stop border post.
