Mozambique: Nelsa Guambe opens solo exhibition in Maputo

According to the Statistics of Culture produced by the National Institute of Statistics (INE) in 2017, Mozambique has more than 7,000 cultural groups, of which 54 percent are dedicated to dance, 18 percent to popular music, 14 percent to choral groups, 8 percent to traditional music and 6 percent theatre. Dancers predominate in the north, particularly Niassa.
The majority of dancers, who in 2014 numbered as much as 4,418, are based in the province of Niassa (1,160), followed by Cabo Delgado (753) and Nampula province with 600 registered groups.
According to the INE, Inhambane has the largest number of popular music groups (363), followed by the city of Maputo (299) and Niassa (278).
Regarding choral groups , 361 are based in the city of Maputo, 191 in Niassa province and 164 in Manica.
As for traditional music, the largest number of groups were in the city of Maputo (179), followed Niassa (74) and Manica provinces (66).
Theatre is most evident in Niassa (85 groups), followed by Inhambane province (82) and Manica, where 65 groups were identified by the National Institute of Statistics.
