Council of state condemns attacks in north, calls for in-depth study to be conducted – Mozambique

Mozambique’s council of state condemned on Wednesday that attacks carried out by armed men in Cabo Delgado province in the north of the country and said an in-depth study had to be conducted into the causes of the violence.

“The (council) praises the tenacity and bravery of the security and defence forces in their prompt intervention to re-impose order, security and public peace”, it said in a communiqué.

The communities must make their youths aware they mustn’t join in the acts of violence, the note added.

On Tuesday night, an armed group killed two people, injured two officers and stole weapons from Quisingule, a remote village in the north of Mozambique, locals told Lusa.

The village lies 12 kilometres from the border crossing to Tanzania, in Namoto.

This most recent wave of violence since 27 May has killed at least 40 inhabitants, 11 attackers and two soldiers according to official numbers and local witnesses.
