South Africa: Holgate Foundation embarks on Mozambique expedition with Land Rover Defender convoy
A team of Mozambican officials, led by members of the country’s relief agency, the National Disasters Management Institute (INGC), travelled to Israel on Saturday, to exchange experiences on water management technologies in arid and semi-arid zones.
Much of southern and central Mozambique is classified as semi-arid, and is currently suffering from severe drought.
From the Israeli experience, the Mozambican delegation hopes to learn lessons concerning appropriate technologies for irrigation and water management, and drought-resistant forms of agriculture.
An INGC statement received by AIM on Friday said that, during its stay, the Mozambican team “will deepen their knowledge in the areas of ground and surface water resources; irrigation technologies; monitoring irrigation systems; small dams for agricultural purposes; weather forecasting; information management; and agricultural production and technical assistance”.
In addition to the INGC, members of the team will come from the National Irrigation Institute, the National Emergency Operational Centre (CENOE), the Water Research Institute, the National Meteorology Institute (INAM), and River Basin Management Department in the Ministry of Public Works.
