South Africa women’s ministry cautions against Russian ‘job offers’
Botswana President Mokgwetsi Masisi will miss this weekend’s African Union heads of state summit in Nouakchott, Mauritania due to maintenance work being done on his official jet. A statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs seen by APA on Saturday states that Masisi was scheduled to leave for Nouakchott on 30 June to take part in the Nouakchott from 1 to 2 July.
The Foreign Affairs ministry said the trip has since been cancelled as unexpected technical maintenance works continue with the presidential aircraft.
The ministry said alternative arrangements were explored but the costs to fly Masisi to Mauritania were prohibitive.
In light of this the Botswana leader has designated the minister of International Affairs, Dr Unity Dow to represent Botswana at the summit.
Dow and other senior officials of the Botswana government are already in Mauritania ahead of the summit.
