Mozambique: Trucks again block the N4 highway to South Africa
Police in Niassa are reinforcing measures to combat border violations between Mozambique, Tanzania and Malawi.
From January to April this year, police repatriated fifty-three people who had entered the province illegally, mostly from the Great Lakes and the Horn of Africa regions.
Director João Mupwela of police provincial command in Niassa, says the movement of people on the borders between Mozambique, Tanzania and Malawi is stable.
“We basically register simple cases of border jumpers who cross the border in search of goods or food,” he says.
Corn and fuel smuggling, indiscriminate killing of animals, illegal mining and logging and vandalising landmarks are the most frequent crimes on the border between the three countries.
