The Ministry of the Sea, Inland Waters and Fisheries is looking for ways pf combating marine pollution and, as part of its response to this challenge, launched a project involving natural ways to build coastal resilience to climate change in Maputo this Thursday.
The cost of the project, to be implemented over the next three months, initially in Nampula, Sofala and Inhambane provinces, is estimated at around one million dollars, funded by government partners.
Deputy Minister Henriques Bongece said that the project would enlist local communities in contributing to the restoration and protection of marine ecosystems, while National Director of Maritime and Fisheries Policies Felismina Antia said that the aim of the project was to reduce the impact of climate change on communities.
The project is launched in the context of World Oceans Day, which was celebrated on Friday.
