Mozambique Elections: Candidate Venâncio Mondlane rejects repeat elections

The main challenges to the achievement of lasting peace in Mozambique and the well-being of its citizens are finding the patience for dialogue and identifying the best solutions to problems.
So observed the president yesterday at a rally in KaNyaka district, Inhaca Island, part of his three-day working visit to the city of Maputo.
The head of state said that citizens should abandon the use of violence as a mechanism of pressure, and that dialogue should be first choice in any disagreement between citizens or between them and their institutions of government.
For President Nyusi, effective peace means not only the silencing of arms, but also Mozambicans understanding that violence is no solution to the problems the nation faces.
Addressing the people of Inhaca in particular, Nyusi said that the government would continue to encourage investment in the development of the island, specifically in the areas of tourism and fishing.
In addition to unemployment, the island’s population complained about of transport to and from the mainland, access to funding for fishing, and the occurrence of the Indian crow and wild pig, which devastate their crops.
On transport, the head of state said that a vessel has already been acquired to provides a daily connection between Maputo and Inhaca, and that the best means for its delivery to the capital was now being assessed.
Yesterday began with President Nyusi visiting a handicraft exhibition in the Zimpeto National Stadium before inaugurating a medical warehouse, followed by an extraordinary session of the Maputo City Council, after which the president left for KaNyaka municipal district.
Today, the head of state is visiting KaMpfumu, KaMubukwana, Nhlamankulu and KaMaxakeni municipal districts.
