President Filipe Nyusi officially opens the International Conference on Nature-Based Tourism in Maputo today, a statement from the presidency says.
The event, which is taking place in Mozambique for the first time, is in line with the government’s policy of developing nature-based tourism, developing communities and strengthening the role of conservation areas in generating income.
On the sidelines of the conference, former president of the Republic of Botswana, Lieutenant-General Seretse Khama, who is in Mozambique to attend the event and is the keynote speaker, will have a courtesy meeting with the Mozambican head of state.
Organised by the Ministry of Land, Environment and Rural Development, in coordination with the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the International Conference on Nature-based Tourism will run until Saturday, and it is expected to attract more than 500 participants.
