Mozambique: Paratus Santa Maria Fusing Trip 2025
Writer of the month of June: Luís de Camões
The Camões - Portuguese Cultural Center in Maputo promotes, as of June, in the space of the Library, the initiative Writer of the Month. This initiative aims to promote reading, especially among young people and contribute to a better knowledge and dissemination of writers and works in Portuguese.
Every month, a writer will be chosen and, in partnership with higher education institutions, associations and theatre groups, a selection of texts will be made by the author to be presented publicly in a session that will also allow exploring possibilities of saying the literary text. Writing and oral will thus also be in focus in these sessions.
The Writer of the Month of June is Luís de Camões (1524 - 1580), one of the greatest writers of Portuguese language, celebrated on June 10, Portugal day, Camões and Portuguese Communities. He is also the patron of the Camões Library - Centro Cultural Português, where the initiative will take place. Camões lived for two years on the Island of Mozambique (between 1567 and 1569), having integrated references to Ilha de Moçambique in his major work, Os Lusíadas.
On June 12, at 17h00, in the Camões Library, a public session will take place around the sonnets of the writer of the month of June. The session will be energized by Salésio Massango, representative of the cultural group Arrabenta Xitokozelo.
Participation in this session will be an opportunity to (re)discover the work of Luís de Camões.
Salésio Tomas Fanuel Massango is a native of Xai-Xai and a finalist in the Librarianship and Documentation course at the Superior School of Journalism. He attended an academic internship at the Polytechnic University Library. He was a member of the cultural group Jovens Amigos da Cultura (Young Friends of Culture) (JOAC), which in 2007 became group Arrabenta Xithokozelo. This cultural group is dedicated to the dissemination of artistic and cultural expressions and has its headquarters at Teatro Avenida. He participated in several cultural events.
He also participated in television and radio programs declaiming poems, having won a contest promoted by Rádio Moçambique. He presented his poems on TVM TV show, Convívio de Amizade, and at the 2006 Samora Gala, where the emphasis was on the exaltation of the victims of Mbuzini.
In 2003, he participated in the "Cultural Heritage Saviour of the Peoples Serving Humanity", as well as in recitals held at ICMA, CCFM, and other places in the city and province of Maputo. He also participated in gatherings held in the Graal.
