Ressano-Lebombo, Mozambique’s busiest border post with South Africa, will operate 24 hours a day from August, Mozambican consul-general Ester Tondo has announced.
The change had been scheduled for April, but was postponed due to technical issues, the diplomat who represents Mozambique in the Mpumalanga and Limpopo regions said.
“From August onwards, [the border post] will operate 24 hours a day,” Tondo, quoted by Mozambican Television (TVM), said on the sidelines of a meeting of Mozambican representatives in South Africa.
Currently, the Ressano Garcia (Mozambique) Lebombo (South Africa) crossing operates 18 hours a day, closing between 00:00 and 06:00 a.m., and only opening 24/7 during festive seasons.
