Natural gas investment consortium supports fight against HIV/Aids in Mozambique

The natural gas consortium led by US oil company Anadarko will support initiatives to combat HIV/Aids in Mozambique with funding of US$560,000 (EUR 473,000), the company has revealed.
The support will go to the districts of Mocímboa da Praia and Palma in the north of Cabo Delgado province, where the gas liquefaction plant and export dock are being built.
Activities will be developed and implemented by Pathfinder, with volunteers helping strengthen the link between communities and health units.
“This contribution is part of the social responsibility programme of the [natural gas] project in Mozambique, which has supported not only initiatives in the health area, but also in the areas of education, culture, environment, among others,” says Steve Wilson, Anadarko’s director for Mozambique.
According to official figures, 13.2 percent of those between the ages of 15 and 49 in Mozambique are infected with HIV/Aids.
The Anadarko-led consortium investing in northern Mozambique is currently preparing ground for the start of natural gas exploration and export construction works.
