The President of the Republic reacted with great emotion to the death of Afonso Dhlakama. Speaking to the nation tonight, on TVM, the public broadcaster, Filipe Nyusi said that he had learned that the Renamo leader was in agony. However, no one gave him time to help someone who he considers his brother.

“It is a very bad moment, especially for me. We were solving the problems of this country. I endeavoured to transfer my brother out of the country, but I could not. I’m very depressed. They did not give me time … they did not inform me that he was sick for a week. They told me a day ago, “said the Head of State.

The last time Dhlakama spoke to Nyusi, according to the President of the Republic, the Renamo leader asked for there to be no failure on the road to effective peace. “I was unfortunate. What matters is that the country mustn’t stop, and we mustn’t continue in a state without opposition. The opposition make any harm to anyone,” said Filipe Nyusi.

O Presidente da República reagiu com muita emoção à morte de Afonso Dhlakama. Falando à nação, esta noite, no canal público, Filipe Nyusi disse que soube que o líder da Renamo esteve em agonia. No entanto, ninguém lhe deu tempo para ajudar quem considera seu irmão.

“É um momento muito mau, principalmente para mim. Estávamos a resolver os problemas deste país. Esforcei-me para transferir o meu irmão para fora do país, mas não consegui. Estou muito deprimido. Não me deram tempo… não me informaram que ele estava mal há uma semana. Disseram há um dia”, disse o Chefe do Estado.

A última vez que Dhlakama falou com Nyusi, de acordo com o Presidente da República, o líder da Renamo pediu que não houvesse falha de nada no caminho para a paz efectiva. “Fui infeliz. O que importa é que o país não deve parar, e não devemos continuar num Estado sem oposição. A oposição não faz mal a ninguém”, sublinhou Filipe Nyusi.
