Photography competition: “Island of Mozambique: The Island of two cities”
The Kulungwana Association, in partnership with the Mozambican Photography Association (AMF), celebrates the double centenary of the city of Ilha de Moçambique, which will take place in 2018. The photographic contest "Ilha de Moçambique: Ilha of the Two Cities."
The Island of Mozambique has a special place in the history of Mozambique. Its legend, almost mythical, has much to do with the built heritage, unique on the Mozambican coast, and with the beauty of the place and its people.
This image remained untouched after the independence of the Country. Successive Mozambican governments have been promoting some actions, most important of which was the classification of the Island as a World Heritage Site in 1991.
Due to its geographical location and its importance in international trade routes, Ilha de Moçambique was elevated to the town on January 19, 1763, and on September 17, 1818, it was granted the status of a city, having the status of first capital of the colony of Mozambique.
