A failure at one of Electricity of Mozambique (EDM) substations, located in Matambo. Tete province, has left areas of central and northern Mozambique in the dark since the beginning of Tuesday evening, Jornal Txopela reports.
O País reports that the electrical malfunction occurred at HCB’s Songo substation.
EDM sources contacted by Txopela ensured that a team is currently at work to solve the problem, although they were unable to establish how long will it take before the reestablishment of electric current in the central zone of the country.
The provinces of Manica, Sofala, Tete, Zambézia, Cabo Delgado and Niassa have been deprived of electricity since the first hours of the evening, reports O País, adding that South Africa and Zimbabwe, countries that receive part of their electriicity from Cahora Bassa, also felt the effects of the Songo malfunction.
Meanwhile, Txopela cites information indicating that all the central and northern provinces were affected by the power outage.
