BlackBOX TV, a service which allows anyone to stream content without Internet via its digital broadcast, has emerged winner of Seedstars Maputo, a competition to find the best startup in Mozambique.
Following calls for applications, 10 startups were selected to pitch in front of a panel of judges at the finals of the event for a chance to emerge winner.
After the pitch session at the finals, BlackBOX TV emerged winner, receiving the crown of the ‘Most Promising Seed-stage Startup of Seedstars World Mozambique 2016.’
BlackBOX TV will now go on to fly the country’s flag at the global finals of the competition in Switzerland where it will compete with other startups from across the globe for equity investment.
“…we are confident that BlackBox TV will perform well during the global final in Switzerland and are looking forward to coming back next year for a third edition of the Seedstars World Maputo competition,” said Claudia Makadristo, Associate for Seedstars World.
The finals took place at the Standard Bank Incubator in Maputo, Mozambique on July 15, 2016.
Dario Mungoi, of Moovi, who represented Mozambique last year during the Seedstars World Global Summit in Switzerland, gave a keynote at the finals.
The event was organized with the support of Standard Bank and UX Information Technologies together with partners such as Swiss Embassy, US Embassy, the American Cultural Center, Idealabs, and the Dutch Embassy.
Now that Seedstars Maputo has come to an end, the Seedstars World team will continue its tour of the continent in search of the most promising tech startups. Its next stop is Luanda on July 27, 2016!
