Mozambique: Fiscal tightening needed in 2025 to ensure economic stability - IMF

Mozambican president Filipe Nyusi has appointed Maria Isaltina de Sales Lucas Deputy Minister of Economy and Finance.
The post had been vacant since September 2015 when the then deputy minister to Adriano Maleiane, Amelia Nakhare, was appointed President of the Tax Authority.
Lucas was currently president of the National Statistics Institute (INE) . She had been appointed Chairperson of the Board of Directors of INE about six months ago, succeeding João Dias Loureiro.
Prior to her INE’s appointment, Maria Isaltina Lucas had served as permanent secretary of the Ministry of Economy and Finance to where she now returns as deputy minister.
It is not yet known who will succeed Sales Lucas as chairperson of the National Statistics Institute.
