Mozambique is among the bottom eight countries in the world Human Development Index (HDI), ranking 181st in the 2016 UNDP Human Development Report released yesterday in Stockholm.
According to the United Nations Development Program report, Mozambique scored 0.418 points, against the 0.949 points scored by Norway, which ranks first in the log.
Mozambique lost a total of 33 percent in the evaluation of indicators analyzed in the HDI and recorded 0.390 points in the Multidimensional Poverty Index, 0.574 points in the Gender Inequality Index and 0.879 in the Gender Development Index.
With the score obtained, Mozambique is the worst-placed among the Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries, three places below Guinea-Bissau, the second worst in the community, ranked 178th in the table.
The country is also the worst among the Southern African Development Community countries, coming behind the DR Congo, the second worst in Southern Africa, at 0.435.
Globally, Norway ranks first in the index, and the Central African Republic last.
