Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa has arrived in Zambia ahead of tomorrow’s Independence celebrations.
President Mnangagwa arrived at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport (KKIA) in Lusaka at about 14:15 hours, Zambian time, aboard Air Zimbabwe.
President Edgar Lungu led Senior Government Officials and Service Chiefs at the airport to receive his visiting counterpart.
The Zimbabwean President upon arrival inspected the Guard of Honour mounted by the Zambia Army.
The visiting Head of State was accorded a 21 gun salute and was later treated to some entertainment by the cultural troupes.
President Mnangagwa is expected to grace this year’s 54TH Independence Day, which falls tomorrow, October 24th, 2018.
The Zimbabwean Head of State is later this afternoon expected to call on First Republican President, Kenneth Kaunda before holding talks with President Edgar Lungu at state House where he is also expected to witness the signing of some Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
President Lungu with his counterpart President Mnangagwa will this evening hoist the national flag at midnight tonight at the show grounds in Lusaka.
This year’s independence will be commemorated under the theme, “54th Independence anniversary celebrating a shared future of unity, development and prosperity.”
Various activities have been lined up for tomorrow to mark the political liberation day of Zambia.
Prior to tomorrow’s independence celebrations, various activities have taken place across the country.
There include cleaning and painting of public places as well as making donations of various items to communities.
