Dozens of people who live around the Polana Caniço General Hospital in Maputo have protested outside the health unit against its use for the treatment of patients infected with the Covid-19 coronavirus.
The health sector has identified Polana Caniço General Hospital as an isolation facility for people with serious coronavirus infection.
The emergence of the first confirmed case and the movement of health professionals in the health unit on Monday morning sparked a protest against the measure by people living nearby.
Protesters indicated a pipe near a drainage ditch, shown in the video report below, as an additional threat.
Journalist Sérgio Sitoe followed the response.
The director of the health unit refused to answer questions and directed our investigative team to the Ministry of Health.
