In Maputo, police on Wednesday afternoon thwarted an attempt to kidnap Kalpesh Ramuji, son of the owner of the jewellery shop Ouriversaria Imperial.
This was the second time the police had rescued Ramuji, who was briefly held by a kidnap gang last year.
This time the police arrested three of the kidnappers, and named them as H. Chicufa, S. Chiau and S. Mahandule. The three are all Mozambican citizens, but had been outside the country, in neighbouring South Africa. They re-entered Mozambique on Monday.
The police described them as dangerous criminals who were already wanted for earlier crimes of kidnapping and armed robbery.
