Two officials from Renamo, the main opposition party in Mozambique, will run the Inhaca district command, in Maputo, and the Maquinino neighbourhood police station, in the central city of Beira, the corporation’s commander-in-chief has announced.
Speaking last weekend at the inauguration of the 5th City of Beira police station, Bernardino Rafael said that an official from the Mozambican National Resistance (Renamo) would become chief of operations in the 5th PRM station in the city of Beira, while another would head the district command in KaNyaka, Maputo city.
The police commander-in-chief also revealed that four other members of Renamo would be nominated to join the Transit Police, another two to the Coastal, Lake and River Police, and two more to the Border Police.
“We are ready to receive and integrate them into the positions already specified for them,” Rafael said.
The ten Renamo men will undergo retraining prior to taking up their new jobs in the PRM. Their integration is a result of the understanding reached between the President Nyusi and the Renamo leadership in the framework of negotiations for lasting peace.
