The two individuals caught at Maputo Airport on the 15th of November attempting to smuggle two kilograms of heroin to India – a 25-year-old woman and a man of Nigerian nationality – are allegedly part of a gang of four.
“Someone gave me this to take to India. He was a Pakistani citizen. The delivery was made at Shoprite,” the Nigerian man caught in possession of drugs explained.
According to information from SERNIC, the national criminal investigation service, the drugs were hidden in the bottom of a suitcase.
Also within the scope of SERNIC operations, a 24-year-old man was caught in possession of seven kilograms of ivory on Kenneth Kaunda Avenue in Maputo last Thursday. The man claims the tips were given to him by a friend.
Since the beginning of the year, the National Criminal Investigation Service has seized more than 31.5 kilograms of ivory.
