MozParks opens new office in Maputo: Advancing sustainable industrial development in Mozambique

The National Institute for Standards and Quality’s “Fine-Toothed Comb” campaign kicked off yesterday and immediately identified underweight bags of sugar on sale in Shoprite Matola, Maputo province.
The Quality Institute (INNOQ) monitors consumer goods to ensure that customers get a fair deal, and their visits are unannounced to prevent ‘clean up’ manoeuvres. This is how the INNOQ technicians discovered that the kilogram bags of brown sugar on the Shoprite Matola shelves actually weighed only about 930 grams.
An explanation of how and where the sugar bags are systematically under-filled is eagerly awaited by consumers who hope that inspectors are also on the look-out for products that may have the right weight but are suspected of containing adulterated product.
The supermarket meanwhile will be sanctioned under Ministry of Industry and Trade regulations, reports O País.
