Mozambique: Terrorists boast of murdering 70 people - AIM report
In file Club of Mozambique.
Two Mozambicans who were caught smuggling used clothes and footwear worth thousands of dollars into the country through undesignated entry points, escaped jail after magistrate Sekai Chiundura ordered them to pay $50 fine each and be deported.
The two had no proper travelling documents and were arrested by police officers manning a road block at Christmas pass enroute to Harare with their consignment.
Chiundura had initially slapped Mussa Vurruca, 28, from Namialo Meconta Ratane and Analdo Brendaldo, 28, with two months jail term apiece for violating section 29(1) of the Immigration Act Chapter 4:02.
The Act states that no alien shall enter, or remain in Zimbabwe without a passport or permit.
According to the State papers, the two connived to smuggle their consignment into Zimbabwe. They managed to enter the country through an unauthorized entry point and boarded a bus to Harare.
They ran out of luck when the bus they were travelling in was stopped by police officers who were manning a road block at Christmas Pass.
The officers conducted a search and found some consignment stuffed in the boot. The two admitted that they had smuggled the goods from Mozambique to supply their markets in Harare.
The goods were forfeited to the State.
Cases of smuggling of second hands clothes and footwear are on the increase. Recently, some law enforcement agents were arrested after they connived with a Mozambican syndicate to smuggle bales of second hands clothes into the country without paying duty to Zimra.
