The Turkish government has offered to support Mozambique in the fight against terrorism in Cabo Delgado province, Noticias reports.
Turkey also hopes to cooperate with the country in the development of social projects with a view to boosting socio-economic growth.
The interest was expressed in Maputo on Wednesday (16-02) by Turkish ambassador Avni Aksoy, after meeting Speaker of Parliament, Esperança Bias.
A spokesman for Esperança Bias told media that the Turkish interest in supporting the fight against terrorism represents the strengthening of the existing friendship between the two countries.
Esperança Bias asked Ambassador Aksoy to work towards augmenting existing cooperation relations and mechanisms between the two countries, including in the parliamentary arena.
For his part, the Turkish ambassador said that his country intended to improve existing relations of friendship and cooperation between the two countries in the economic and commercial areas, with the creation of a Mozambican embassy in Turkish capital, Ankara.
“In addition to the commercial and economic areas, we have the fight against terrorism in Cabo Delgado, in which we intend to help Mozambique fight the insurgents, as we know how important it is for the country,” Ambassador Aksoy said.
“Turkey intends to invest in agriculture, tourism and industrial development, along with Mozambican entrepreneurs, so that there is a mutual gain between the two countries,” he added.
Speaker of Parliament Bias asked Ambassador Aksoy to take with him a message of closer ties between the two countries and peoples.
