It is difficult to get into the city of Maputo by road, with congestion in several streets and avenues giving access to the city centre.
On Avenida Marginal , for example, it is suspected that some of the hold-up is related to tanker trucks being obliged to manoeuver around the gantries holding the security cameras which monitor the road.
Some drivers interviewed by O País admitted there were difficulties because of the height of their loads.
There is also congestion before and after the Matola tolls, where maintenance on National Highway number 4 by the concessionaire, TRAC, is ongoing. Long queues of vehicles here are leaving road users frustrated at the delay in their journeys.
The result is that many motorists seek out alternative routes, which become congested in turn.
