Three Mozambican police officers have been arrested on suspicion of being involved in an armed home invasion in Gondola, Manica province, in the centre of the country, the provincial police command said on Tuesday.
The police spokeswoman, Elsídia Filipe, said that the officers, from the transport and communications branch, entered the house where they handcuffed a man in front of his family and stole 20,000 meticals (about €300).
“The police have recovered a weapon, handcuffs and the vehicle used in the assault from their colleagues”, Elsídia Filipe added.
She also told reporters that the force had been relentless in cases of police officers being involved in criminal acts as this behaviour undermines society’s trust in the authorities.
