The Mozambican Tax Authority is to forgive fines, interest and tax foreclosures of companies amounting in total to about 9 billion meticais.
The President of the Tax Authority of Mozambique, Amélia Nakhare, said the pardon would not be extended to companies’ net debt, which, if not paid, would still result in tax enforcement.
Nakhare also said that the measure aims to enable debtors to alleviate their burden on the tax authorities and give the Tax Authority an extension of the revenue collection margin.
Nakhare did not specify the amount of the debt forgiveness, saying only that in total the institution was owed around 9 billion meticais.
