Sweden has granted a SEK 355 million (EUR 35.5 million) support to doctoral training and scientific development at the Eduardo Mondlane University (UEM) in Mozambique, the embassy of that country announced today.
The money will be spent over five years to “develop new local master’s and doctoral programs in UEM and strengthen existing ones,” the diplomatic delegation said in a statement.
The goal is to train 233 masters, 100 doctorates and 16 postdoctoral fellows.
The program will be implemented in collaboration with Swedish and South African universities, which will receive part of the students in areas where UEM still has training limitations.
UEM is the oldest institution of higher education in Mozambique and the partnership with Sweden goes back to 1978.
