The south of Mozambique is facing energy supply problems because of the sabotaging of the high voltage power line pylons between the Ressano-Garcia and Infulene substations in Maputo province.
Council of Ministers spokesman Filimão Suázi said yesterday (Tuesday 17-03) that the situation would cost EDM up to 20 million meticais.
Suázi indicated that three pylons were brought to the ground due to the vandalisation, dragging down seven others.
On Monday, Mozambique Electricity (EDM) said replacing the 10 vandalised pylons would take 21 days.
The affected line is the alternative power line from Ressano Garcia to the Infulene substation, in Maputo province.
EDM’s Transmission Director, Southern Region, Celso Saete, had earlier discounted the possibility of the southern region experiencing power cuts, but warned that the primary transmission power line was operating with greater than usual loading.
