The African National Congress (ANC) in the Free state has become the first province to officially nominate Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma for the position of ANC president.
The party held its provincial general council on Tuesday where they consolidated nominations from branches.
After over five hours of delays, the general council took off.
And then their preferred candidates were announced.
“The nominee for the position of president is Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, David Mabuza for deputy president position, Nathi Mthethwa for national chairperson position, Ace Magashule for secretary general position, nominee for the position of deputy secretary general is Jessie Duarte and for the position of treasurer general the nominee is Maite Nkoana-Mashabane.”
The deputy chair of the province was conspicuous in his absence, with the Chair Ace Magashule left to assure delegates not to be worried about his non-attendance.
It’s also understood that branches in support of Cyril Ramaphosa also boycotted the gathering.
