Six people have been killed by lightning in Zambezia province in less than two weeks. The incidents, confirmed by the police, occurred in the districts of Morrumbala and Mulumbo, with the latest occurrence in Maganja, on the coast.
Police spokesman Sidner Lonzo said that the first case occurred in Morrumbala, a father and son were killed in their yard.
The second case occurred in Mulumbo, where worshippers in the courtyard of a church were struck, a couple and their four-year-old child losing their lives.
The last case occurred in the Maganja district, on the coast.
“Among preventative measures to consider are avoiding proximity to metal objects and water, and not sheltering under trees,” Lonzo said.
