The National Migration Service says it is prepared to deal with any possible overcrowding at the Ressano Garcia border crossing following the closure of three other crossings between Mozambique to South Africa to counter the spread of the Covid-19 coronavirus.
Speaking to Radio Mozambique this Wednesday, a SENAMI spokesman Celestino Matsinhe noted that anybody intending to travel by land to neighbouring South Africa or vice versa can only do so via Ressano Garcia.
Matsinhe said that SENAMI was aware of the constraints this would subject Mozambicans to, while underlining the need to comply with health and safety measure.
On Tuesday, 4,000 people used the Ressano Garcia crossing, a figure the Migration Services consider “normal”.
