Sasol believes in sport as an important platform for sharing values and mobilising people towards a common goal.
In line with this vision, today Sasol has signed a Sponsorship Agreement with the Mozambican Basketball League (LMB), for the organisation of the Senior Women’s Basketball Championship, branded as Liga Sasol.
Through this partnership with LMB, Sasol will cover a total of 24 million Meticais over 3 years and part of this funds will be directed to the development and promotion of basketball in Inhambane, the heart of Sasol’s operations in Mozambique.
Sidónio Chavissse, Inspector General of Sport, representing the Secretary of State for Sport, said “This initiative shows Sasol’s commitment with the country’s causes. Therefore, we want to acknowledge Sasol for the confidence shown to the league by supporting the holding of this championship for three seasons.”
According to Ovídio Rodolfo, Managing Director of Sasol in Mozambique “more than sponsoring a sport, Sasol is supporting gender with many practitioners and followers in Mozambique”. Rodolfo also said “with this initiative we want to encourage healthy practices for young people and boost competitiveness between clubs, which will contribute to the development of our sport.”
The first edition of Liga Sasol will run place from February 7 to 15, in Maputo, with 8 teams divided into two groups, which play two rounds in a round-robin format.
