UPDATED: Ex-Credit Suisse bankers arrested on U.S. charges over Mozambique loans
A South African court in Kempton Park has rejected a request for the release of former finance minister Manuel Chang who has been detained in Johannesburg for over a week.
Lawyers made a request for the release of Chang, arguing that his arrest was illegal.
After hearing the arguments of the Prosecutor and the defense, the judge stood down the hearing, and returned to the room with a decision: to deny Manuel Chang freedom.
The defense has announced that it will proceed with an application for release under bail.
The hearing session of the former Finance Minister resumes at 14:00 hours.Source: O País
