Rwanda has offered to support the economic recovery of people affected by terrorist attacks in Cabo Delgado province.
This position was made clear by the President of Rwanda, Paul Kagame, during a meeting in Kigali on Thursday with the President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi.
Paul Kagame said that Mozambique could continue to count on Rwandan support in the fight against violent extremism.
“The message I want to send to the people of Cabo Delgado is one of hope, because the visit of President Nyusi to Rwanda will serve to strengthen the bonds of friendship between our two African countries. SADC troops have already recovered [territory], and part of the population is returning to their areas of origin. The challenge now is the reconstruction of public and housing infrastructure,” President Kagame said.
In turn, Filipe Nyusi indicated that Rwandan support for the economic recovery of victims of terrorism in Cabo Delgado would be directed towards the implementation of agriculture, industry and commerce projects.
“Let it not be thought that whenever I meet with President Kagame we only discuss the war. We are brothers and have been cooperating for a long time, and long before the phase of terrorism, we were already discussing development projects. So, this stopover in transit helped us to review other projects because the war against terrorism itself must be sustained and this is also done by developing economic, agriculture and trade projects,” President Filipe Nyusi stressed.
