The three northern provinces of the country have been without electricity since this morning, said Electricidade de Moçambique (EDM).
The malfunction occurred at around 10:00 a.m. on the Mocuba-Alto Molócue Power Line, in Zambezia province, “causing a power outage in Nampula, Niassa and Cabo Delgado provinces,” reads the statement.
In addition to the three northern provinces, the power cut also affected the northern districts of Zambézia province.
EDM is currently working to supply electricity to some of the affected areas from the Nacala Floating Power Station, in Nampula province, prioritising hospitals and water treatment plants.
The statement further states that EDM’s technical teams are assessing the severity of the failure with a view to replacing the system.
