Portugal’s prime minister, António Costa, has said that Portugal’s proposal about mobility among the Portuguese speaking countries is “perfectly compatible” with the country belonging to the European Union, adding that they needed to move quickly before the rules changed.
“If the European legal framework changes one day, things could become different. We need to make the most of this window of opportunity and I hope we do”, he said on Tuesday.
The prime minister was speaking to reporters shortly before the official start of the CPLP summit being held on the island of Sal in Cape Verde.
The CPLP is composed of Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Equatorial Guinea (which does not speak Portuguese), Mozambique, Portugal, Sao Tome and Príncipe and East Timor.
