Aga Khan, the Ishmaelite religious leader said four words about his meeting with the Portuguese president on Monday, “A uniquely memorable day”.
The meetings with the Portuguese president and prime minister market the ceremonies of the 60th anniversary of Aga Khan as the leader of the Ishmaelite Muslims in Lisbon today.
The “Shia Imami Ismaili” Muslim community, a branch of the Shiite Muslims live in about 30 countries, with most of the European members living in Great Britain, France and Portugal, where there are about 7,0o00 members.
Aga Khan founded one of the largest private development networks in the world, employing about 80,000 people.
The AKDN, Aga Khan Development Network is a group of private international agencies that try to improve people’s conditions in various parts of the world, with an annual budget of around €600 million.
President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa officially welcomed Mawlana Hazar Imam to Portugal on 9 July with full state honours at Palácio de Belém, the official residence of the President.
