The Pedagogical University (UP) has launched a mobile library service with a total of 700 books, plus 400 works for children and youth, in an initiative which aims to encourage schoolchildren to develop a taste for reading.
In a ceremony directed by UP rector Jorge Ferrão, the mobile library was baptised with the Chuwabo name ‘Mukukutha Oziwa’, which means ‘Car of Knowledge’.
The library will travel between schools in the province.
“We now have more than 4,000 titles to help improve our children’s reading abilities,” Ferrão said, urging school managers to invite the travelling library to visit.
The newly-inaugurated library brings the number of mobile libraries in Mozambique to five.
