Mozambique: Three Portuguese-language writers up for Dublin literary prize

A free performance by Paco Montalvo entitled “Alma del Violino Flamenco” [The Soul of Flamenco Violin], will take place in the gardens of the Polana Serena Hotel at 8:00 p.m. tonight.
Montalvo is considered one of the best violinists in the world, having been nominated and awarded more than ten times. He has played in of New York’s Carnegie Hall and with the New England Symphonic Orchestra.
The performance, which is sponsored by the Spanish Embassy in Maputo, is part of the opening ceremony of the 17th European Film Cycle, bringing the best of the genre from the continent to the cities of Maputo, Beira and Quelimane from tomorrow, May 3rd, to August 28th.
In Maputo, films can be watched at the Franco-Mozambican Cultural Centre from the 3rd to the 13th of this month. In Beira and Quelimane, showings will be held from the 22nd of May to June 6th and August 22nd to 25th respectively.
The cycle will present 12 recent European films, many award-winners. There is also a parallel programme of documentaries, workshops, debates and films for children.
