Mozambique: Fisheries sector concerned about plastic waste in sea
Maputo port and city will from December 17th to January 3rd host the One Ocean Expedition, part of an incredible maritime expedition around the world.
Arriving from Norway, from where it departed in August 2021, the 108-year-old Statsraad Lehmkuhl and its crew are circumnavigating the globe to share knowledge about the crucial role of the ocean for a sustainable development.

This adventure will culminate with the return of the vessel to Norway in April, 2023, by which time it will have sailed 55,000 nautical miles and visited 36 ports around the world, including the Port of Maputo.
Everybody can witness this incredible adventure, accompanying the ship’s arrival on the 17th of December at locations in Maputo city overlooking the harbour and approaches, such as Av. 10 de Novembro and Av. Marginal.
The Royal Embassy of Norway in Mozambique has announced that it will hold a series of events related to the One Ocean Expedition, including, on Thursday, 15 December, a seminar on the “Use of Scientific Research Results in the Public Management of Fisheries and Marine Resources” from 8:00 a.m. to 12:30 a.m. at the Pedagogical Complex-Amphitheatre 2501, Main Campus of the Eduardo Mondlane University (UEM).
Later on, at 5:00 p.m. the exhibition “Oceans that Unite Us” opens at the Fisheries Museum in central Maputo, while on Friday, December 16, another seminar on the ‘Marine Cluster’ will take place at the Southern Sun Hotel from 9:00 to 12:30 a.m.

The arrival of the sailing ship Statsraad Lehmkuhl at the Port of Maputo is scheduled for Saturday, December 17th, at about 10:00 a.m. to 12 noon. A reception on board, by invitation only, will be held on Saturday and on Sunday, children and university students, again by Invitation only, will have a guided tour.
The exhibition “Oceanos que nos Unem” will be on display for the general public at the Museu das Pescas until January 3, 2023.
The Statsraad Lehmkuhl leaves Maputo for Cape Town, South Africa, on January 3, 2023, at 10:00 a.m..
