Mozambican fashion designer Nivaldo Thierry was the only African stylist to represent the continent at Macau Fashion Week, one of the great events of its kind in the world and, according to Thierry, extremely difficult for a Mozambican or an African in general to participate in.
Thierry says that it was an exceptional experience to showcase his creations in that part of the world, internationalising and exchanging ideas with other designers, models and production teams.
“As a Mozambican artist, attending this fashion week in Macau was a great honour. I was very happy when I received the invitation and even happier when, upon arriving, the organisation told me that they had already heard about me and that they had wanted me in the event for some time. In the same way, I felt a great responsibility to be representing my country in what is one of the great fashion events,” Thierry said. “They are one thousand years ahead of Mozambique. So in the five days in Macau I learned a lot,” he added.
The event is aimed at leading luxury fashion brands. In addition to holding fashion shows in incredible settings, the organisation conducts initiatives aimed at the fashion industry and the general public.
Macau Fashion Week took place simultaneously with the Macau International Fair, where Mozambique is also represented by other figures of the Mozambican arts and a business delegation led by the Minister of Industry and Commerce Ragendra de Sousa. At MIF, Mozambique has the opportunity to publicise its potential, bringing together entities such as the Mozambican Chamber of Commerce, APIEX, IPEME, among other exhibitors, the statement said.
The young Mozambican designer has been the great promise of contemporary national fashion, representing Mozambique at events of great international prominence.
