The Secretary of State for Niassa province has demanded that the police there urgently investigate the recurrent attacks, with firearms, on vehicles in Marrupa, Maúa, Mavago and Muembe districts.
The demand follows an attack on Sunday (13-3), perpetrated by unknown persons armed with firearms and blunt instruments, on a vehicle carrying passengers and goods from Mecula to Nampula.
The attack took place at the administrative post of Marangira, Marrupa district, the criminals successfully stealing all the merchandise and an unspecified amount of money.
Secretary of State for Niassa Dinis Vilanculos made his comments on Monday during the delivery of four vehicles to the Provincial Command of the Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM) in Niassa.
Commander of the PRM in Niassa, Verónica Nkuemba, said that the corporation was on the ground with a view to clarifying the case.
