The presiding judge of the Cuamba Judicial Court, in Niassa province, Bolis Júlio, escaped an assassination attempt on Wednesday night, Notícias reports.
Strangers armed with AK-47s fired 28 shots through the window of the magistrate’s bedroom where he was resting. The fact that the judge’s residence is only about 150 metres from the District Police Command of the Republic of Mozambique in Cuamba did not deter the would-be assassins.
PRM Provincial Command spokesman Alves Mathe told Noticias that an investigation was being carried out and that the judge now had police protection.
Cuamba residents meanwhile are commenting on the danger of circulating in the city and its outskirts after 9:00 p.m., saying that criminals armed with firearms and knives have been robbing the homes of merchants and businessman, raping their wives, and killing any who dare to resist.
