Mozambique: State Institute denies misuse of €24.2M funds earmarked for Covid fight
Salvador Namburete, former energy minister
Economist and former Energy Minister Salvador Namburete says there is a need to diversify exports in the country. Namburete argues that if exports are diversified, the country is not only dependent on a product group and reduces the vulnerability of shocks due to depreciation of the same.
The economist developed a study on the role of exports in the Mozambican economy. According to their study, the five products that accounted for 80 percent of the country’s exports in the 1980s to the 1990s currently account for only 8 percent. Agricultural products gave space to those of mining origin. Namburete says that there is a need to change this scenario through the diversification of exported products.
The former minister also says that no country can dispense with exports, but there is a need to take measures to encourage them.
Salvador Namburete presents these conclusions in the book ” A exportação primeiro” (First export) valuing the role of export promotion in the country, which will be launched today in Maputo.
