Mozambican jazz artist wins prestigious international award
Naíta Hussene
“The mud that moulds us” is the title of an exhibition by Mozambican photojournalist Naíta Ussene which opened on Monday at the Fernando Leite Couto Foundation in Maputo.
The show portrays Naíta Ussene’s 40-year career and a life dedicated to photojournalism. The images in the exhibition evoke mixed feelings, “the joys, sorrows, disappointments, hopes and twilights of our country”.
Naíta Ussene began his career with the “Tempo” magazine more than four decades ago, supported by now-deceased mentors Ricardo Rangel and Kok Nam. They taught him the art of photography, the ability to record the unusual angle, and the professionalism of the great photo-journalists.
Naíta Ussene, who currently works for the Savana weekly newspaper, was born on May 5, 1959 in Angoche, Nampula province.
Naita will share reminiscences about his work at the Leite Couto Foundation today at 6:00 PM.
