Mozambique’s National Elections Commission (CNE) has begun training 1,836 district election commission members for the general elections on October 15, a spokesman has announced.
Quoted by Noticias, Paulo Cuinica said that in each of the 102 non-autonomous districts, 18 district commission members are being trained in matters related to the composition and functioning of electoral administration bodies, voter registration and observation mechanisms.
“The idea is to allow the members of the district electoral bodies to familiarize themselves with the entire electoral process, from organising and voting to validating and disseminating the results,” Cuinica said.
The training covers only members of non-autonomous district committees because the 53 districts with municipalities received training in the context of the local elections on October 10 last year.
The CNE spokesperson said that the training would have a substantial impact on voter registration, to be held in the 102 districts from April 1 to May 15.
“In the same period of 15 days, there will also be an update of the census in the municipal districts and in the diaspora,” he added.
The October 15 general elections will be Mozambique’s sixth, and will comprise simultaneous presidential, legislative and provincial votes.
